North Camp VIllage scoops 2nd place in the 2007 Hantsweb Awards
18th September 2007
www.northcampvillage.co.uk, the official website of North Camp Village in Farnborough, Hampshire, scooped 2nd place in the annual Hantsweb Awards. The website, designed, built and updated by local businessman Steve Optix, beat off fierce competition from no less than one hundred and ninety two other websites in the category ‘Best Local Area Website’.
The awards, sponsored by companies such as Axon, Dell, Microsoft and SEEDA, are a prestigious annual event in their fifth year, made to reward and recognise high quality website design combined with informative content and ease of accessibility. Steve attended the awards, held at The Ark Conference Centre in Basingstoke, with Debbie Whitcombe from Rushmoor Borough Council and partner Donna Tilley. The Awards were opened at 11.00am on the Tuesday 18th September by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Mrs Mary Fagan JP and presented by Steve Power from Wave FM.
The Judges comments about the website were:
“A lively site inviting comments, with excellent photos and good links to organisations. The links to the councils aren't obvious for first time users but with easy pathways, residents should get to know their way around the site quickly. The topical items on the front pages make a frequent visit to the site worthwhile.”
The North Camp Village Community & Business Portal, which has been live since 2004, was nominated for the second year running this time going a step further and making it to the final three. The website lost narrowly to Basingstoke Now, a community portal for the town of Basingstoke.
The website has achieved phenomenal success since its launch receiving over twenty thousand visits from over thirty different countries. With the World Wide Web gaining such momentum it’s become imperative to gain good footing in this medium to promote the growth of the area and the wealth of shops, businesses, clubs, groups and societies on offer.
